Summer is almost here, which means summer vacations are right around the corner. I am so excited to be taking my very first cruise this summer and can’t wait to explore new cities while sipping on Aperol Spritzes and eating ALL. THE. GELATO.
I’ve put together a sunny getaway essentials list, filled with trendy styles as well as classic pieces that offer comfort and versatility.
1 // A COMFY TEE
A comfy tee is great for travel because of how versatile it is. You can style it with some linen pants, over a suit, or with some cut off shorts or a denim skirt. You can create so many different looks with one classic white tee.
2 // SWIMSUIT
Swimsuits have become so stylish these days that you can wear them outside of the pool or ocean by throwing on a pair of cut off shorts and some sandals.
3 // DENIM SHORTS
Nothing says summer quite like a classic pair of denim cut off shorts. My favorites are the Levi’s 501s, but find what pair has your best fit and be prepared to get so much wear out of them. You can dress them up or down which makes styling them effortless.
4 // SANDALS
Perfect for the beach or grabbing drinks by the pool, sandals are certainly a warm weather vacation essential. You can stick with the classic neutral strappy sandals, or add some flair with tassel or beaded detailing.
5 // SWIM COVERUP
This is something I am lacking and definitely need to get before my upcoming trip this summer. I’ve seen some awesome true swimsuit coverup styles online, but I also like the idea of using a kimono as a coverup!
6 // SUN HAT
An absolute must. I repeat: A MUST. A sun hat isn’t just a stylish accessory that completes a look, it also keeps you safe by protecting you from harmful sun-rays. If you are pale skin like me and burn easily, please bring a hat with you (along with your sunscreen!).
7 // FUN PRINTS
I love playing with prints on vacation. For some reason, a vacation makes me feel like I can be more bold in my outfit choices. Try out a palm tree print or mix a couple of animal prints together.
8 // BREEZY DRESS
A dress that can effortlessly transition from day to night is a must-have for your warm weather vacation trip. Style it during the day with sandals or sneakers, and then glam it up at night with some fun jewelry and accessories.
1 // COTTON
Cotton is perfect for all climates, which is why it’s widely worn and loved. The natural fibers allow air to circulate through the fabric, which makes heat more bearable. It’s like a built-in-air conditioner for your body!
2 // RAYON
Rayon is fantastic in dry heat as it has a thinner thread than cotton which makes it more lightweight. This also helps it drape ever so nicely!
3 // LINEN
Linen was made for the heat. Linen textiles are some of the oldest in the world-people have been wearing it for centuries, and for good reason. The natural fiber and lightweight weave allow for maximum breathability; the coolest of the cool.
(AKA ADDING SOME FLAIR)
1 // TASSELS, TIES, AND FRINGE
You can really have some fun with your look by adding accessories such as tassel earrings or fringe bags. They instantly add a coastal vibe and give you that easy breezy look.
2 // STRAW DETAILING
Straw accessories are quite possible the hottest trend this spring and summer, and I don’t see it going anywhere any time soon.
3 // BELT BAGS
Take your favorite vacation outfit to the next level with an incredible belt bag. It’s on-trend, enviable and keeps you hands-free while you’re on-the-go.
PRINTS AND COLORS
1 // PRINTS
Try out a new print that you’ve been eyeing but have felt there hasn’t been an “appropriate” time to wear, or go crazy-cool by mixing and matching a couple of prints together. For the Boho vibe, think ikat prints, multicolored stripes, or paisleys, and colors like turquoise, orange, pink or purple. White shorts really show off these colors and prints well.
2 // COLORS
Remember all of the Pantone colors we’ve been seeing this spring and summer? A summer vacation is the perfect time to experiment with some of these colors! Think Pink Peacock, Fiesta, Aspen Gold, and Princess Blue!
